Going Green at Workplace

Going Green at Workplace

Going green has been the trending topic for most workplace in the country. But how do we reduce the amount of plastic waste we generate in the office? Let’s talk about the best practices in developing a much greener company!

        1. Change the way you consume your drinks. You can always use a filter coffee machine to substitute                          common coffee machines! This is because the normal coffee machines usually dispense plastic cups or                  even plastic stirrers! Even with tea, you can also consider bulk tea!

  1. Plastic-free for lunch please. We know packed lunch is convenient but do you know the main contribution to the plastic generated in the office is from the food we packed? You could always organise meal in teams or bring your own container instead!
  2. Organise a plastic-free campaign in the office! Recycling is just not enough these days, reducing plastic use is as important as well! To keep the campaign active you can always reward employees, teams or departments who are doing well! But of course, offer plastic free rewards or even change in working hours.
  3. The more you recycle, the better it is! (Even in your life!) It’s always a great way to know how recycling is works within a company and what kind of measures you can bring up to improve the activity. For example, if there’s no recycling bins, you can initiate the needs to have some in the company.
  4. Turn off any electronics or lightings! Make it a habit to turn the main plug off upon leaving the office, that would save up the world! Well, you could think of a go green fund if someone forgets, they have to put in some funds that gets donated to an environment organization!
  5. Go paperless in your company! Corrections, revisions or even any updates contributes the most to paper waste in the office. Try to keep things digital instead of printing team as much as possible. Reviewing documents digitally would be a great practise to start with!
  6. Get yourself a desk plant. A desk plant is good to improve the indoor air quality and bring some wonderful nature into the office environment.
  7. Go green in commuting as well. This can be in walking, biking, carpooling or even taking the public transport to the office.
  8. Update mailing lists. With updated mailing lists, you could actually avoid sending out unnecessary letters. This could save the paper, printing, postage and also the cost!
  9. Eliminate paper towels. Cloth napkins or towel in pantry could be a good option so avoid the use of paper towels, even in the washroom if it’s possible. There can always be an option of hand dryers in washroom.

These are the few ways to practise go green in the office. There’s always more ways to implant good habits in the office to save the earth. Apart from going green in the company, what about yourself? Have you taken on plastic free life yourself as well? It’s great if you do, a great initiative to save the world! Let’s save earth!
