Creating a new social contract for work in the 21st century

The world of work is in an era of rapid transformation that is creating exciting possibilities for all. Companies and individuals are embracing the potential of more flexible and diverse ways of working – but labour and social policies have not picked up the pace of change yet.

The Adecco Group is at the forefront of the search for policy solutions, engaging with client companies, social partners, associates and institutions connected to the world of work. The Adecco Group is driven by the conviction that future frameworks will need the engagement and participation of all, embedded in a new social contract for work in the 21st century.

To underline the importance of the issues at hand, the Adecco Group has commissioned a report that frames the urgent need for a new social contract. The report is intended to raise awareness about the changing policy needs of today’s labour market, accelerated by the impact of technology and its effects, such as the rise of the gig economy, and to drive the debate forward so that governments, companies and social partners can make the future work for everyone.

“We need a new social contract for work that is fit for purpose in today’s world,” says Alain Dehaze, the Adecco Group CEO.

“Governments, employers and social partners should re-design regulation to ensure that all work opportunities are secure and sustainable for workers and business alike.”

The Adecco Group believes that one step forward is to facilitate a gradual shift towards the individual, portable and transferable build-up of social accounts. This would help to put all forms of work on an equal footing and fuel opportunity and choice in an increasingly diverse world of work.

To showcase further innovative solutions from the Adecco Group and expert views from across society, a dedicated microsite has been created to anchor the debate – with an open invitation to all to join the conversation.

We invite you to join our quest for a new social contract for the 21st century. Adecco Group colleagues across the world are looking forward to the dialogue with you, in person and via the microsite.

It’s time to change the way we think about work. It’s time to act.
