Understanding the Important of Building a Safer Workplace

Workplace safety has been a great concern around the world lately and it’s everyone’s responsibility but how can you contribute to this concern? You can raise activities that’s able to play part of the role for a safer workplace such as well-being program, occupational risk training or even establishing safety protocols. Here’s some great suggestion on how you could do it.

·       Error or mistakes as part of improvement or innovation instead of punishment. This could reduce the mistakes or being detected earlier as well. Learn to live with mistakes also contributes on how to build a safe workplace.

·       Ways to motivate employees in the company. Employee that feels demotivated will have higher risk in experiencing physical accidents or data security relation. To boost or enhance their motivation, training programs or even establishing security protocols could always be arrange.

·       “Psychological Safe” working environment is also important. Work life balance, for such the working life and the personal life. This can actually help in reducing any accidents and hence, aid in a better safety and security in the workplace. Being able to access to health insurance and a gym membership are some good efforts in creating a safer workplace.

·       Remove any potential hazards. It is important to be in compliance with the OSHA standards, rules and regulations. Please always encourage employees to report and potential problems or safety violations to resolve them instantly.

·       Display visual safety aids and messages. If there’s any potential hazards in your workplace, use colour codes, posters, labels or even signs to alert employees. Digital signage also works well too.

·       Create a fun safety. This does not mean creating a game out of safety measures. You could use a fun workplace digital signage to create safety-themed quizzes or videos of the dos and don’ts. Friendly competition can also be organised to motivate employees. This will actually keep them to stay engaged to build a safe workplace and prevent accidents.

·       Drug and alcohol abuse. The abuse is crucial to be included in the bud through a clearly stated policy that needs to be consistently being enforced and adhered to everyone.

·       Communication. Always teach employees what it is that they are doing wrong and how to do it properly. Be remindful that it’s always a two way communication and make sure they understand that you are often approachable for questions, suggestions or any concerns.

·       Housekeeping. Maintain the program once you already have things up. It’s not just about enforcing it but also making sure that the program is still running and not in a mess. It’s really not about making it look nicer but helps in giving a good impression when a compliance officer comes in to do an inspection.

We spend most of our hours at our jobs. So therefore, it is important to ensure a safer workplace. A great way to path yourself to a leadership role as well. So make a difference!
