You are not sure if you’re making any common mistakes on a CV? Your CV would serve as your ticket for job interviews and job offers. To make sure if you’re doing right for your CV, here are the common mistakes:
- Too much clichés? Recruiter would like to see the impact of your abilities. It is best not to reflect your skills as clichés. Cliched phrases are overused and don’t tell much things about yourself.

Recruiters would prefer Time New Roman with font size 12 though there are other fonts such as Bell MT, Georgie and Arial that are also acceptable. Describe the a brief introduction on the nature of business of the company you work for and your role within the company. Then demonstrate your skills and achievements throughout the journey. - Inadequate research? Before applying for any job offers, do lots of research to be the one they are searching for. Check out their website and social medias if there’s any projects they are working on. You don’t want to use guesswork on your CV and lowering your percentage chances of passing through! Grab your recruiter’s intention with the skills and knowledge that they are targeting!
- Grammar and spelling mistakes? You can always use some applications to check your CV before submitting it to detect any grammar or spelling mistakes. If you’re still worried, you can always get a second check from a friend.
- Inaccurate information. The technology is advanced these days, there’s always ways for any diligent recruiter to find out your previous roles and responsibilities. Be truthful with what you have to spill on your CV. You will find yourself probably struggle to perform according to the expectations of the role you have applied for. There’s no turning once this inaccurate information is discovered.
- Gaps in employment. If there’s a mysterious gap in your employment (for travel, study or etc), it’s best to explain it. Otherwise recruiter will jump to conclusions and pass over your CV.
